Dealing with Stress During Your MBA Interview

General No Comments »

So if you want to go to graduate school and get an MBA Degree you need to be prepared for the MBA Interview. If you are at the beginning stages of this process you can benefit from the advice available before you ever start. The application process involves writing essays, taking tests, preparing your resume and MBA Interviews. Even before that you need to find the right school. Don’t automatically apply to the first one that comes to mind. It may not be a good fit for you.

Resources for an MBA Interview

There are many resources available to help you find your way through the application process. Some only cover part of the process others such as MBA Bootcamp walk you through the selection of an appropriate school through writing resumes to preparing for MBA interviews. It does you no good to apply at schools which are out of your league either because you do not have the academic background to make it there or the financing to pay for it. Don’t shy away from applying at Stanford though. If you are a fit, you have a chance.

The college application process should be taken very seriously. The colleges you apply to, the colleges that accept you, which one you choose to attend will have a profound effect on the path you will travel in the future. Colleges have different requirements for admission as well. At the graduate level most require MBA interviews. Prepare for them as you would for a job interview at a company you really want to work at. Do your legwork. Check out the college information and then visit the college. Find out how current students feel about it. What do they like, what don’t they like? How do you feel about their issues?

When visiting a college, try sitting in on a few classes. Make appointments to meet with professors teaching in the MBA program. Get a feeling for the campus and its atmosphere. Do you feel at home there? Does it excite you to think you could be joining their community? College visits give you insight into how your personality fits with the rest of the college community that you can use when you write your essays and return for your MBA interviews. Even if you never mentioned your college visit in the essay, the understanding you gleam during a visit will seep into the way you write your essay.

MBA Interview Closing Comments

MBA interviews are likely the most stressful part of the college application process. In surveys the fear of public speaking is high on the list of human fears. Interviews can be interviews with a single admissions officer or with a group of admissions officers. If you have never been to a panel type interview you may want to practice that. Speaking to three people can be surprisingly different from having a conversation with a single individual. Find out early on if it makes a difference to the way you act and improve on any anxieties you discover. Remember, you are preparing to choose your path for the next few years of your life and possibly the direction it will take for decades.

Can we truly know what the MBA Interview Questions/Answers will be?

General No Comments »

Can we truly know what the MBA interview questions or answers will be? Of course not, however, schools have kept their essay questions unchanged for several years in a row and there is no reason to believe they would make radical changes in the type of questions they have been asking to cull their number of applicants. After all, these questions have been working for them. Why fix something that isn’t broken?

Examples of MBA Interview Questions

When an admissions officer reads applications they try to identify the voice of the applicant, that special trait that lets them stand out from all the other applicants. MBA interview answers have the same purpose. Let your individuality shine through. Show them who you are and what you can bring to this world. Make them believe in your potential. Let them get to know the person behind the application and have them discover how well you fit into their institution’s culture. Is this a highly innovative business school? Show them your entrepreneurial spirit. What have you accomplished already?

If you have done your homework and discovered the perfect school for you, you should still have a backup school. Even with the best fit possible, there are no guarantees. The number of students competing for entrance into business school is staggering and if you want that MBA you need to keep your options open. You never want to appear desperate. Do not beg to be admitted into their program. Let your character and accomplishments speak for you.

You should prepare for the MBA interview questions answers though. Have your friends and family members prepare lists of questions from the outlandish to the traditional. Pretend you are running for political office and you will be drilled by the press. Turn it into a party if you need to attract more help. Stump the candidate. Assign judges whose job it is to rate your performance and critique it. Have fun with it while you are learning your weaknesses. Analyze the feedback you get and act upon it. Too often we find out what we need to improve and stop there. If you want to make it into the school of your dreams you need to act on the advice you receive.

MBA Interview Questions Conclusion

Fix those weaknesses one by one. When you think you have improved enough to make it through an interview without displaying the habits you worked on, practice again. If you are told about different weaknesses, don’t panic. This is good news.

You have overcome the initial bad habits that threatened to derail your MBA interview questions answers and can now move on to what would have been minor, imperceptible flaws in the initial practice. You are improving. If you don’t have much experience with interviews you may want to line up an interview with a college alumni who has experience with college interviews. Many large universities use alumni to interview undergraduate students. These people are volunteers and you may find one willing to practice with you.

More MBA Interview Questions To Consider

General No Comments »

How do you prepare for those MBA Interview Questions? Very thoroughly. At this point you should have your resume updated and your essays prepared. Read them. Now ask yourself several questions. Do they present the whole you or just academic and work experience highlights? If they only present highlights what other experiences do you have that you think are valuable?

Tips on MBA Interview Questions

Write those down. Express them in positive terms. If you fell off a horse, broke your collar bone and had to finish school from the hospital bed, point out your determination to continue and succeed. Does your resume sound believable? If you went from sweeping floors to managing the local grocery store, write down how that happened. Were you the owner’s child or did you earn that promotion with some brilliant action the owner happened to see? Pretend this isn’t your resume.

Read it again and find the holes. Write down an explanation for every hole. Remember to phrase it in a positive light. You want to practice that skill so you might as well start as you are writing it down and not when you get to the MBA interview questions.

Did your path lead you to strange choices? You were an apprentice at a jousting tournament? Great! How did that happen? Find a few of these unusual experiences to sprinkle into the answers to your MBA interview questions. You want to be memorable. You want the admissions officers to start thinking of you as a person rather than applicant number 235. You should analyze your life carefully. Collect a list of these experiences because there is nothing worse than throwing a forced story into an answer. You want to go over your life now, so these experiences are fresh in your memory. They will provide you with a multitude of suitable MBA Interview Answers.

MBA Interview Questions, Summary

Now is the time to verify your facts. If you can’t remember all the details about a job you had ten years ago, look them up. There is nothing worse than lying in your answers to MBA interview questions. No college will accept you if they catch you in a lie. Brush up on your own history. Did you have some memorable experiences as a teenager that totally overshadowed where or when they took place? Ask your parents about the dates and places, especially if they were events recorded in recent history.

You should have a lengthy list of facts detailing important events in your life that the admissions officers have not heard before. You are not trying to sound like a person different from the one that applied, you are trying to flesh out the details with these. During the MBA Interview Questions you have the chance to add to the positive impression they already have of you, use it. Enhance it. Show them why this person sitting in front of them would be an asset to their school. Since you decided this school was a fit for you, demonstrate the characteristics you possess that let that ring true in their minds as well.

What Topics Does The MBA Interview Cover

General No Comments »

MBA interview questions and answers fall into several topics. Expect to discuss your previous education and your professional experience. These are generally followed up by questions about extra-curricular activities, why you wish to get an MBA and what motivates you personally. Within each of these categories expect to highlight your individuality. You are trying to connect with your interviewer on a personal level so they will remember you.

MBA Interview Topics

Most MBA Interview questions and answers are meant to evaluate your thinking processes. Plan to explain what motivated you to study what you did and whether you would still choose that major and why. Your personal growth during undergraduate studies could provide you with inspiring answers to these questions. Most MBA students start business school within three years of completing their undergraduate studies. This should be fresh in your memory. If you expanded your experiences with study abroad, this would be a good place to highlight what you took away from that. Did it change your focus?

If you chose to enter the workforce after receiving your undergraduate degree, you can expect MBA Interview questions and answers asking about any leadership experience and management skills learned while on the job. You could find yourself discussing the future of the industry or your role in advancing your company. Have you had any problems relating to people? How did you solve them?
An ever popular question is: “What are your weaknesses?” Relating this to your professional career, be prepared to talk about failures. For this part remember to turn every failure or weakness into an opportunity you had to learn new skills.

A question seen at interviews from undergraduate level, over job interviews through MBA Interview Question and answers is either what the last book you read is or what your favorite book is. This question lends itself to expanding on your views and displaying your thought processes and personality. Make sure you prepare for this one. You may want to write out an essay about it to help crystallize your thoughts and bring out the points you want to be sure to make. Talk about characters you liked and why, why you chose that particular book and what you took away from the book. Relate it to your own life. Give the interviewer a glimpse into your soul. Let them see what motivates you.

MBA Interview Topics Summary

No MBA Interview questions and answers would be complete without asking you why you wish to obtain an MBA and what made you choose the school you are applying to. At this point having visited the college previously really helps. You will have a fair idea of the atmosphere on campus, of what student life is like and how it matches your sense of living. Don’t assume that two schools within the same city are similar. They are not. Take, for example, Boston University’s School of Management and Harvard Business School. They are just a short subway ride apart but the culture couldn’t be more different. You need to know these things.

Good Advice About the MBA Interview Process

General No Comments »

Applying for business school consists of essay writing, taking the GMAT, updating your resume, lining up letters of recommendation and an interview are all part of the MBA Interview Process. You wrote essays when you applied to college for your undergraduate degree. The GMAT is just another test, a bit more advanced than the SAT but still a test. You have taken hundreds of those by now. Your resume could use some polishing up. You have been networking with professors for years making sure you had options lined up when it came to asking for letters of recommendation. The only unknown is the interview. What are mba interview questions like?

MBA Interview Process Advice

As scary as it may seem to not know anything about college interviews, they aren’t that different from job interviews. Rather than focusing on the MBA interview process you should consider your written material first. How long ago did you write that resume? Is it up to date? Does it say anything about you or did you copy someone else’s format and call it good? Surprisingly, resume writing is a skill not mastered by many. Not only do you want your resume to be up to date on facts, you want it to reflect your voice. You may have grown since you last wrote that resume. You don’t want an admissions officer to read your perfect essays reflecting the vast skills you have acquired just to be thrown back by the rather clumsy update of an early resume you had lying around.

Check up on those potential writers of letters of recommendation as well. Make sure you allow them plenty of time and verify that they remember who you are. You want them to reflect on your characteristics, your personal strengths not some general review of your grades. The admissions staff can see your grades on the report card. Just imagine sitting in your interview and receiving the MBA interview question : Who is Professor Xi? He did not seem to know you.

Practicing for the GMAT would be wise. Top tier business schools attract students with the middle GMAT scores in the 700 to 760 range. If that is where you are applying you will want to assure that your GMAT score helps your application not distracts from it. Study guides are available as are classes.

MBA Interview Process Summary

Polish your essays. Bring out your individuality. You want to stand out from the crowd. Your voice is very important in your essays. Display the mature person you are, the leadership skills, your communication skills. When you are done with them, read them in combination with your resume. Do they sound as if they were written by the same person. If they do then you are ready to start preparing for the final part of the application process, the interview. Every MBA interview question is meant to bring out your perspectives, your personality, your individuality. The admissions officers want to know whether you will be an asset to their school, whether they think you will be happy at their school and whether you will add to the culture of the institution.

How to Handle Interview Questions for an MBA Program

General No Comments »

What will the interview questions for MBA Program be like? As your final year of undergraduate studies has arrived and now you are preparing to apply to graduate school. Well, that depends on where you apply. First tier schools can be quite different from second tier schools. Everyone applying to a first tier school has an exceptional GPA and passed the GMAT with flying colors. Almost every applicant could theoretically succeed at the school but do they fit in? Admissions officers at first tier schools attempt to find the group of students that will complement their institution and bring more prestige to the school in the future.

MBA Program Tips

The culture at Stanford does not match the culture at Harvard Business School. There are aids available to help you decide in which culture you would thrive. After all business school cultivates leadership and networking with future leaders. Once you identify a culture you could succeed in, you can concentrate on the application process and preparing for the interview questions for the MBA Program that suits your personality. If you did your job properly, the questions will not be difficult for you to answer.

Interview questions for the MBA Program you feel comfortable with, are likely to present you with the opportunity to explain why you would be such a good fit for these schools. You can relax and go on to preparing for the rest of the interview. Anxiety can work in your favor because it heightens your awareness of your surroundings but it can also make you jump hurdles you put up yourself. Don’t answer questions at such a fast pace that the admissions officer can’t keep up with you. They are human after all. This may be late in the afternoon and you are their last candidate. They are ready to head home. Keep them interested in you. Convince them that staying there to interview you was worth it.

MBA Program Summary Comments

Also, give yourself the benefit of some practice runs. Find some people to practice interviewing with. You are still in college. You are not the only one working on applications. Create a practice group and critique each others performances in mock interviews. It will benefit everyone. In this case it doesn’t matter if you are practicing with someone who is interviewing for jobs or graduate school. You will discover the same quirks in either MBA Interview. Interview questions for the MBA program may differ from job interview questions but the stress of an interview situation is the same.

You will discover if you say ‘uh’ after every sentence or if you stare at your feet frequently. You should work on overcoming these habits before any interview. Learn to show interest in the school or job you are applying for. If after the interview questions for MBA you are given the opportunity to ask questions about the program be ready to ask a question that isn’t answered in all the material the school has already made available to you. Preparations are important for future business leaders.

Preparing for your MBA Interview

General No Comments »

Congratulations, you have an appointment for your MBA Interview! Now what? That is the problem you are hoping to have. How do you prepare for it? How do you even get to that stage? Relax. You have been preparing for it your whole life. Now you can learn to put the finishing touches on those preparations. It can be done. Luckily for you, help is available. So here are the basics.

MBA Interview Self Evaluation

First, you need to evaluate yourself. Who are you? Have you ever clearly expressed who you believe you are and who you want to be? If you haven’t, it is time to do so. If you can’t answer those questions for yourself, you will never convince an admissions officer that you want to attend their school and join their MBA program. They hold MBA Interviews all day long. They are experts at picking up little tell-tale signs of discomfort. Body language that says you really don’t believe in yourself. They see you looking at the ground and they guess that you are trying to fabricate a story. They are faced with utter silence when you can’t come up with an answer and they may think you just weren’t motivated enough to prepare for the work ahead.

Once you know what you want you are ready to prepare to get there. The MBA Interview is just one of the steps of the application process but it is an important one. The interview verifies what the admissions officers have seen in your essays, grades, test scores and resume. It gives them a chance to judge whether the person sitting in front of them matches the picture those written documents painted and to explore the person behind those pages. It is your time to shine, to show them the unique individual that you are, the one that can add another dimension to their student body.

You crafted your written application documents carefully. Make certain you can match the expectations you created during your MBA Interview. Talk about your job experiences with confidence. Turn everything you did or learned into a valuable tool you now possess.

Practicing for your MBA Interview

This isn’t as easy as it sounds. Practicing this would be very beneficial. Get some coworkers to practice with you. Set up a mock MBA interview. Tell them that you want them to ask you the tough questions. What are your weaknesses? Not only is that a common interview question, you will want to ask the people who practice with you.

Did they notice that you tap with your fingers constantly? Did you stutter? Did you look them in the eyes? Were you so anxious you sounded like an auctioneer, speeding your way through the answers? These are the things you need to find out now. Let the people who agreed to practice know that you are looking for this kind of feedback so they pay attention to it. You want to work on eliminating bad habits before your MBA Interview. If you find you perform well when practicing with friends try to set up a practice interview with someone you don’t know. There are college alumni who are happy to help with this.

How to Prepare for the MBA Interview

General No Comments »

Are you looking for help in preparing for your MBA interview? Help is available from many different sources. Counselors will help you personally, there are preparatory classes, books and online courses. Here are a few things you should consider. How much help do you need? What kind of help do you need? How much does it cost? How long will it take?

Preparing for the MBA Interview

Your MBA Interview is only part of the application process. If you need help with only a part of the process one of those options may make more sense than another. You also need to consider your learning style. If you simply pick up a book will you learn what you need to learn or do you need to hear it? Who do you trust? Do you want to learn from someone who has actually gone through the mba interview process or are you satisfied with a counselor who has read all the information available from colleges and extracted his take on the subject? Can you afford to work with a one on one counselor?

Where are you in the process? If you are just starting with the application process and the actual MBA interview is still in the distant future. Try lining up support people that can help you practice. Find out if there are any alumni living in your community. Do you know any of them? Do any of your friends know any of them? Try to find a connection to approach them about giving you a practice interview. If they went to that college, presumably they went through an interview successfully. If nothing else, it will give you a hint as to what kind of questions to expect.

Be prepared to practice before you meet with the alumnus though. This should be your final test run, the one closest to the actual MBA interview. At this stage you should have already worked on your eye contact, your body language, your speech patterns. You don’t want to overhaul your entire personality, simply improve upon any obvious signs of anxiety you may have during interviews. It is quite common for competent people to find themselves in stressful situations and discover they are not prepared to handle them. Panic sets in and their mind cannot control it in time. You want to avoid that. Now is the time to practice.

MBA Interview Process Conclusion

Start with a trusted friend, someone who wants to help you achieve your goals. You can even prepare a set of questions for them. Have them ask you those questions as if you were in an interview for MBA. Ask them what they observed. Let them know that you won’t be mad at them if they say your voice started sounding like a mouse because you couldn’t project. These are the things you need to know now while you still have time to work on improving your performance. You are preparing for an interview that can have a major impact on the direction your life takes. Prepare for it accordingly.

MBA Interview Secrets – How to Ace That MBA Interview

MBA Admission Consultants No Comments »

So you want to get into an MBA program and want to know some MBA Interview secrets. If that is the case, read on to discover a key strategy that will help you ace that MBA Interview and get accepted. You should understand it’s going to take some work to get into a top MBA program and you’re probably focusing on good grades and good MCAT results.

That is helpful, however it isn’t all that is important. Those successes may help you get the interview, but the MBA Interview itself will make or break your chances of actually getting into the school of your dreams. So what does it take to do well in a MBA interview?

MBA Interview Tips

Here are a few tips:
1) They want students that will make them look goodRemember that at all times. This is the key to getting into the program. Long after you have graduated, you’ll still be part of the program. If you do well, you’ll be one of their success stories and they want as many of those as possible. Whatever you do, you need to focus on what it would take to do well in the program, then do those things.

2) They want students who really want to be in THEIR program. There is nothing more demoralizing than having a student who’d rather be somewhere else and since MBA programs have their pick of applicants, they will pick those who really want to be there. So if you want to be among the top picks, research your prospective program and figure out as many solid reasons as possible why this program is what you really want to be part of.

3) Show commitment before they even admit you. One way to do that is to visit their campus to check out the facilities, meet some of the faculty members and students there, and even attend a class or two. It shows you’re really enthusiastic about their school, and it will put you on the short list of applicants once you actually apply and write about how much you enjoyed your visit and that you really hope that you’ll be accepted because you’re so looking forward to being part of their program.

4) Once you get invited to the interview, you will benefit greatly from keeping all of the above in mind, and from having visited their campus before you should be comfortable talking about it. Remember, they want students who will be successful. So do what you can to demonstrate your commitment. Show them how well you’ll fit into their program and how much you’re looking forward to your time there and make sure you say a few nice things about your visit.

Conclustions about the MBA Interview

What impressed you the most? Who do you want to study with? You get the idea. The fact that you have visited their program will make your enthusiasm all the more credible and will ensure that you will be well on your way to getting your MBA Degree.
